Lost in my world

What do you do,
When everything you've fought for,
everything you thought you wanted,
The brightest star in your eyes,
What happens, when it dies?

How do you cope?
When you were so close.
On the brink of your greatest feat,
A scent of victory you could taste,
And it sours just before it's complete.

My feet stuck in place,
I reach and I fight,
But its fading, its changing.
That place in my heart, where hope once blazed,
Now, it's only cold leaving me crazed.

The wars are all over,
The fires have burned out,
Yet here I stay among the falling ashes,
Counting the lives of the broken beneath.
Aimless I wander, lost in my world of doubt?
